Conferences - Thanks for Coming

Thanks for coming to conferences. I always enjoy visiting with the parents of my students. Students are more successful in school when the parents and the teachers work together. Please feel free to contact me if you ever have any question. Thanks again for coming to your child's conference.

What's Happening This Week

The standards in the new math unit are multiplication and division. To be successful, it is important for the students to be fluent on their basic multiplication and division facts. Please help your child practice these at home. We are reading informational text and identifying facts and opinions in the reading passages. The science topic is "What is Matter" and the properties of matter.

Basic Math Facts Test

Basic Math Facts Tests that your child took during the first week of school will be coming home this week. These scores are only used to help determine what interventions or extensions your child will need. The scores on these tests are not figured into their math grade. Please look over the tests and use the results to determine which basic facts your child could benefit from practicing at home. Currently, we are primarily working on addition and subtraction so that is what I would suggest you begin practicing. I look forward to working together with you to educate your child.

Get the Scoop on Math!!

Please join us at McCollom to learn about the new math curriculum, Everyday Math. The first of three presentations begins at 6:00 pm on August 27th. Look for more information to come home with your student. Hope to see you there.

All About Me Bag

Your mission for this task is to bring a “bag” of items that tells us about you!

First, think about all of the things that you enjoy, or like to do. Then start thinking of items that you have that you could put into your bag to bring to school tomorrow and share with the class. Be creative! I would like to see what ideas you come up with! I am very excited to get to know you a little better.

I would like for you to have at least 5 items in your bag to share with the class. Your “bag” of items is due Tuesday, August 18th! Have fun and be creative.

Welcome

Thank you to everyone who attended our evening activites on Thursday. It was great to meet everyone and it looks to be an exciting year. See you in class Monday!
